1.1 Introduction
Convergence of technologies means combination of technologies. Computer is a machine which was basically made for computation as its name suggests but various technologies developed and dependent on the computer so this wonder machine is not just for computation but also for a powerful tool used in convergence of technologies, let us know about different types of computers and technologies.
Computers can be classified on the base of their hardware technology in following categories:
1. Digital Computer
2. Analog Computer
3. Hybrid computer
1.1.1 Digital Computer
Digital computer works on a digital system. In digital system the data is converted into binary digits, i.e., 0,1. The zero '0' represents switch off state and one '1' represents switch on state. All the characters in digital system are represented by a set of a binary digits and ASCII (American Standard Codes for Information Interchange) is the most popular coding system used in modern computers.
PC,laptop,Notebooks etc. are based on digital technology. The digital technology works very fast and accurately. The eight bit set transfers parallel through eight tracks(wires) so it takes less time and there is no any otherwise situation that switch on or off by code 0 and 1 so there is no confusion and no scope of any mistake in processing.

In Analog computer similarities are established in the form of current and voltage signal. Analog computers are operated by measuring rather than by counting. in Analog Computers, the variable is an electrical signal which produces analogs to the variables of the physical system.
Analog Computers refers to gradual type of change rather than changes in the form of steps which can be counted digitally. Only the limited types of functions can be performed in analog computers.
The computer used in a PCO machine is an exmple of this computer type where the computers on comparison of time and dialled call which is computed with the distance and rate.

A Hybrid Computer is a combination of digital and analog computers. In this computer some parts function on digital system and some other on analog systems. It utilizes a modem which coverts digital signal into analog and vice-versa. The computer in factories which operate the machines work on the hybrid technology.
